SHAH ALAM, March 25 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has introduced an assessment tax rebate scheme for homeowners who adopt eco-friendly practices.

Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said applications, open from March 1 to June 30, are offered a rebate of up to 100 per cent or a maximum of RM500 per individual, whichever is lower.

He stated that the assessment is based on five eco-friendly practices, namely around energy, water, waste management, transportation, and biodiversity.

“The initiative, introduced in 2011, aims to recognise Petaling Jaya residents who adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle in their homes.

“This programme is part of the Petaling Jaya Climate Action Plan 2030, which aims for a 33 per cent reduction in carbon emissions,” he said during the MBPJ meeting, yesterday.

Zahri said the local council’s Domestic Waste Management and Public Cleaning Department will conduct briefings and promotional sessions in each councillor’s area throughout the four-month application period for the scheme.

“This briefing and promotional session aims to provide information and guidance to help the community with the application process,” he said.
