SHAH ALAM, March 24 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has issued 144 compounds for illegal waste dumping up to March 18.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said enforcement was done via the PJ Watch programme, which involves monitoring and periodic patrols by plainclothesmen.

He said monitoring was also done via moving closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) at 11 illegal waste disposal sites.

“Through CCTV footage, we found 12 individuals and 16 vehicles involved in illegal waste disposal, with 43 hotspots detected.

“Fourteen individuals, three vehicles and nine companies were compounded,” he said in a statement after the MBPJ monthly meeting today.

He added that based on analysis of enforcement data, there was an increase in cases of illegal waste disposals by business licence holders in Petaling Jaya.

“MBPJ reminds business licence holders to practise regulated waste disposal and follow the rules to avoid penalties.

“All parties are urged to cooperate to keep the environment clean and safe for the well-being of Petaling Jaya residents,” Zahri said.
