SHAH ALAM, March 24 — Nearly nine tonnes of leftovers from Ramadan bazaars under two local councils have been collected over three weeks.

Under the MySave Food campaign, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has collected 7.717 tonnes of food to distribute to suraus, mosques, universities, and low-cost apartments.

The MBSA said the programme, which has been active Monday through Friday from March 4, involves the Shah Alam Stadium Section 13, Section 17, Section 19, Section 28, and Denai Alam Section U16 Ramadan bazaars.

“MBSA extends its utmost gratitude to all parties, volunteers and Ramadan bazaar traders who have supported (the campaign) and contributed the food and beverages,” the council said on Facebook.

Previously, Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the fifth series of the programme was launched to prevent food waste and help the needy.

Meanwhile, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) collected 1.098 tonnes of food waste from the SS6/1 Kelana Jaya and Section 4 Kota Damansara bazaars to be made into organic fertiliser.

“This success proves Ramadan bazaars are not only economic centres, but an important platform to conserve nature,” said Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon in a statement.

He said the MBPJ also activated its Bakul Bahagianya Ramadan @ PJ 2025 programme to collect and distribute food to the needy.
