Over 120 cybercrime experts to participate in Cyber Games 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — Over 120 participants, including cybercrime investigators and digital forensics experts from 40 countries worldwide, will take part in the Cyber Games 2025 from May 20 to 23.

National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) chief executive officer Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin said the competition, co-organised with the Council of Europe and Interpol, will be held for the first time on a global scale before being extended to the Europe and Africa regions.

“This competition will be organised with the same concept and spirit as the Interpol Digital Security Challenge, which has been running since 2016, but on a larger scale,” he told Bernama today.

Megat Zuhairy said participants in the competition would be tested with various tasks to solve simulations of cybercrime cases in real-world scenarios.

They will also be assigned tasks to resolve ransomware attacks, focusing on key areas such as digital forensics, open-source intelligence and crypto investigation.

He said that in addition to being a platform for intellectual competition, the Cyber Games would also serve as a platform for experts to enhance their understanding of the evolving cyber threats and how to address them more effectively.

Meanwhile, in line with the country’s role as Asean chair in 2025, Malaysia will also host the Asean Cybercrime Conference on May 19, focusing on ransomware attacks and crypto investigations.

Megat Zuhairy said the conference is expected to be attended by various parties, including government officials, enforcement agencies, and cyber security entities from Asean countries, cyber security and digital forensics experts, security technology providers, legal experts, the private sector and international organisations such as Interpol.

“Nacsa will also collaborate with the Council of Europe and Interpol to ensure thorough preparations for this inaugural event, ensuring that the objectives are met and that it becomes a benchmark for future events,” he said.
