Syawal new moon lookout set for March 30

PUTRAJAYA, March 20 — The date to sight the Syawal new moon to determine Aidilfitri will be on March 30, the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal announced today.

In a statement, it said the Conference of Rulers had consented to the determination of the date for Aidilfitri based on the sighting of the new moon and mathematical and astronomical calculations.

“The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will announce the date for Aidilfitri over radio and television that night,” it said.

Twenty-nine locations have been identified for the sighting of the Syawal new moon:

Johor

Melaka

  1. Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi

Negeri Sembilan

  1. Baitul Hilal Telok Kemang, Port Dickson

Selangor

  1. Bukit Melawati, Kuala Selangor

  3. Balai Cerap Selangor, Sabak Bernam

Perak

  1. Balai Hilal Pantai Pasir Panjang

Penang

Kedah

Terengganu
