SABAK BERNAM, March 6 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kilang Beras Rakyat Sekinchan to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said this collaboration will not only develop Selangor’s agricultural ecosystem but also ensure the people have access to quality rice supplies.
“Food security is one of the country’s priorities in the agricultural sector, particularly in the paddy and rice industry, which plays a crucial role in ensuring a stable food supply for the people.
“This strategic partnership will also guarantee that the people receive quality rice at reasonable prices,” he said at the event yesterday, with Menteri Besar Dato’ Sri Amirudin Shari serving as a witness.
Khairil said the MoU is also expected to double the yield of paddy farmers, reaching up to 4.2 tonnes.
He added that PKPS is employing mechanisation methods, using machinery and equipment to replace manual labour or animals across 5,000 acres of paddy fields in Sekinchan.
“Currently, the predominant method relies heavily on manual labour for planting, which takes between three to five days to complete one to two acres of crops,” Khairil said.
