SHAH ALAM, March 2 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) acted swiftly to put a stop to a potential river pollution yesterday after it detected a flow of coloured water.

Its team and the Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) detected the water in a drain in Kampung Desa Aman, Sungai Buloh, which was flowing into a nearby river.

"We promptly arrived at the location and conducted an investigation. Based on inspections and observations of the surrounding area, the coloured flow was suspected to have originated from a furniture premise.

"Further checks by Luas and the DOE found that the premises had been washing paint containers at its washing site, causing the waste to enter the nearby drain," it said in a statement yesterday night.

Luas has instructed the premises involved to carry out immediate cleaning at the site. Simultaneously, its team took preventive and control measures by placing one activated carbon bag at the location to prevent the coloured flow from further spreading.

"The team conducted sampling at the affected site, and the samples were sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia (JKM) for further analysis.

"An investigation paper under Section 79 (4) of the Luas Enactment 1999 has been opened for further enforcement action regarding the offence of polluting water sources, subject to JKM's analysis results.

"The situation at the location has been successfully controlled to prevent a more severe impact on the nearby water source/river," it said.
