KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — The Malaysian Electronic Sports Federation (MESF) is ready to collaborate with Selangor if the esports is contested at the 22nd edition of Malaysia Games (Sukma XXII) in Selangor next year.
Its president Muhammad Naim Al-Amin said the national e-sports governing body is also ready to offer the services and expertise needed to include esports as an event if it is contested at the biennial national games.
“We welcome the Selangor government’s decision to include esports because we have been through two Sukma in Kuala Lumpur (2022) and Sarawak (2024) and the participation (of esports) was quite encouraging despite the differences in terms of selection of game titles.
“MESF will usually be involved in terms of naming the head of the technical delegation, but we are prepared not only in terms of technical but in terms of organising the tournament altogether, (including) marshall, technical and organisation or initial discussions on the game titles,” he told Bernama today.
In the meantime, Naim also suggested that the e-sports games to be contested can be expanded in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games and the 2027 Olympic Games.
“We hope that there will be other game titles brought to the fore in Sukma 2026 as preparations for the 2027 Olympic Games and the 2026 Asian Games. There are several game titles in which Malaysia excels, but we lack grassroots players.
“Hopefully with the advent of e-sports in Sukma, it will provide space and opportunities for many more game enthusiasts to be involved in these events,” he said.
On Saturday (February 22), it was reported that Selangor will propose e-sports as one of the additional events at the 2026 edition of Sukma.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the proposal would be discussed with the Youth and Sports Ministry at the Sukma supreme committee meeting.
