SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — The state government, via the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), will explore the rice industry to ensure more productive crop yields.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the exploration, to be carried out on several plots of land, will utilise farming methods implemented in Sekinchan.

“State executive councillor for agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said that numerous interventions have been made, yet issues with diseases and yields persist… therefore, the state, through PKPS, will revisit the initiative that was previously planned, namely the rice industry.

“PKPS has identified thousands of acres of land for cultivation, and the much-discussed Sekinchan rice formula will be applied. This will, in turn, safeguard the welfare of farmers,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking during the wind-up of the address by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor at the State Legislative Assembly session today.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim informed Parliament that the government plans to adopt the farming methods implemented in Sekinchan, which have been proven to enhance rice production productivity in several states, including Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

He said this is due to the significantly lower rice production productivity in these four states compared to Sekinchan.
