Selangor plans new treatment plant to boost water reserves

SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — The Selangor government is planning a new water treatment plant (WTP) to ensure state water reserves always exceed 15 per cent.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim said four more WTPs are being built to fulfil consumers’ needs.

He said the four are the Rasau WTP Stages 1 (set for completion in 2026) and 2 (2028), Labohan Dagang Phase 2 WTP (2029), and Langat 2 Phase 2 WTP (2030).

“Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), through its 30-year business blueprint, is replacing pipes and upgraded pumps and water tanks to up capacity.”

He was answering Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham’s question on the state government’s constructive efforts to grow water reserves, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Izham said Air Selangor has taken steps to lower non-revenue water rates to prevent treated water loss.

“In the short term, the active leakage control method has been implemented to proactively identify leaks.

“Air Selangor also aimed to replace 5,000km of old piping over 15 years (until 2020) as a long-term solution,” he said.
