SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — The state government is delighted as the People's Residency Project (PRR) programme in Harmoni Madani Bestari Jaya has finally been realised after 28 years.
State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu described the construction of 245 housing units for workers from five estates in Kuala Selangor as a long and arduous struggle.
“I am extremely pleased that the PRR Harmoni Madani Bestari Jaya project has come to fruition. It has been a long struggle, spanning 28 years.
“I would also like to thank the Prime Minister, the ministry, and the state government for their contributions, amounting to RM75 million, including 20 acres of land from Berjaya Corporation Berhad,” he told Media Selangor.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for PRR Harmoni Madani Bestari Jaya, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
The project, a collaboration between the Federal government, the state government, Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia, and Berjaya Corporation Berhad, involves a total development cost of RM75 million.
Each housing unit, estimated to cost RM300,000, will be sold at RM45,000, with the government subsidising approximately RM58.8 million in total.
In May last year, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the government was committed to resolving the housing issues affecting 245 families from five estates in Bestari Jaya.
The announcement came following the eviction of workers from the estates — Ladang Mary, Ladang Nigel Garder, Ladang Bukit Tagar, Ladang Sungai Tinggi, and Ladang Minyak — who were left without homes.
