SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — The Selangor People with Disabilities (PWD) Action Council is formulating the final phase of the Selangor PWD Policy that will benefit and recognise the group’s role.

“We expect the policy to be launched mid-year, after it is tabled at the Selangor Economic Action Council (meeting), set for May.

“Afterwards, we will launch a roadshow and engagement session with all parties so our future developments will be more PWD-friendly,” Selangor PWD Action Council chairman Danial Al-Rashid Haron told Media Selangor.

He was met at the Batu Tiga Career Carnival held in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) at Dewan Beringin, Seksyen 24, here yesterday.

He added that the Selangor PWD Policy was formulated for every age and involves various aspects such as education, transport, and reach.

Danial said the policy will be made a guideline, with all state subsidiaries and departments as the main implementing agencies.

“Sometimes, we erect nice buildings, but PWD cannot access them. They have the right to visit stadiums to watch football matches, participate in leisure activities and go to malls,” he said.

Currently, disabled folk in the country are only protected under the PWD Act 2008, which provides for matters related to registration, protection, rehabilitation, development, and well-being.
