SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — Some 200 children of former Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) members who have completed their rehabilitation will soon begin formal education in government schools.

State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said they will be monitored by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to ensure compliance with the release conditions and to prevent any violations that could lead to further action.

“One of the release conditions is enrolling their children in national schools to integrate them into society. I want to remind everyone that we must support and treat them like any other individual.

“(We should) befriend and assist them, whether as teachers or fellow students,” he said after presenting RM400 in school assistance to the GISBH children today.

Additionally, Fahmi noted that faith rehabilitation among these children has shown positive progress, as confirmed through reviews conducted by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais).

In October last year, Selangor issued and gazetted a fatwa declaring the beliefs, teachings, doctrines, and practices of GISBH members and its affiliates as deviating from true Islamic teachings.

According to the fatwa, all Muslims are prohibited from practising, adhering to, following, teaching, spreading, promoting, or supporting these teachings.

That same month, the Selangor government established a special task force to develop a dedicated rehabilitation programme for children rescued from GISBH charity homes.

The task force comprises representatives from the police, JKM, the State Education Department, the Selangor Zakat Board, Mais, Jais, child psychology and education experts from the MBI Foundation, and the Selgate Foundation.
