SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 — i-City’s glass slide is not allowed to operate unless the company submits documents including planning approvals and building permits.

Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said city council (MBSA) representatives met with i-City management recently to ask the latter to submit the documents.

“The Shah Alam City Council has met with i-City the day after the incident (where an inflatable tube fell off the glass slide). We asked them to submit the documents, but haven’t received them although we asked them to do it immediately.

“However, we did not set a deadline, and only said that unless they submit documents such as planning approvals, building permits, and their business licence they are not allowed to operate,” he told Selangorkini.

Fauzi said the council followed procedure in order to ensure visitors’ safety.

“I want to stress that MBSA follows the law and has strong evidence to back its actions.

“Any party looking to run a business must submit these documents for engineers’ assessments. This is important to ensure all activities meet the conditions for safety,” he said.

Previously, an 18-second viral video showed an inflatable tube fall from the 60m-high, 600m-long glass slide and hit a visitor.

The incident sparked concern about the safety of attractions at the i-City theme park.

On January 31, MBSA said it had issued eight notices to i-City since November 14, as the company continued to operate the glass slide.

The local authority said it was disappointed that i-City failed to adhere to procedure even after several warnings.
