SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — A total of 373 traditional village chiefs in Selangor have been provided with laptops and one year of free internet data to facilitate administrative duties and communication with residents.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative ensures that the village heads, who serve as agents in implementing state policies, can transition into the digital era, thereby strengthening local administration.
“Digitalisation is not limited to civil servants and students, it applies to everyone. Village chiefs also need to embrace it as they play a role in state administration
“They must be prepared and adapt to digital transformation. If necessary, we will provide training so they can also guide residents in line with the state’s direction,” Amirudin said in his speech at an event with the Selangor Traditional Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz, here last night.
Amirudin said that village heads must develop information technology skills, particularly in data usage, to enhance their leadership capabilities and assist in state administration.
He added that the initiative aligns with current technological advancements and helps ease their responsibilities in overseeing residents’ welfare.
“As village heads, we need to change our approach. We must master data and information, especially in areas with large populations,” added Amirudin.
