SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The Selangor government has expressed its readiness to offer support in the post-flood recovery efforts for Sabah and Sarawak, which have been severely impacted by the disaster.

State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said the state is currently monitoring the flood situation in the affected areas and assessing the needs for sending volunteer teams during the recovery phase.

He explained that severely impacted areas that require assistance, including volunteers and logistics, will be identified soon.

“As we have done in other states, we will assess the need to send volunteer teams to assist with cleanup efforts and help uplift their spirits after the flood.

“Just like in Kelantan and Kedah previously, we will send volunteers. For Sabah and Sarawak, we will consider the costs and other factors, which will be properly coordinated. For now, we are monitoring the situation,” he said.

He was met at the Kota Anggerik state legislative assembly Health Carnival at Surau Al-Ansor, Section 2, here today.

As of 8am today, it was reported that the number of flood victims in Sarawak had decreased slightly but remained above 12,000 people. They are housed in 62 temporary relief centres (PPS).

In Sabah, the number of flood victims slightly increased to 1,651 people from 537 families as of 8am, compared to 1,485 people from 493 families last night.

On January 2, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari handed over RM500,000 in aid to the Kelantan government to help ease the burden of flood victims affected by the disaster.
