SHAH ALAM, Jan 31 — The state’s 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results are testament to the success of the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS), said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In view of this, he said the initiative will be continued this year, with a total allocation of RM10 million.

“The 2023 SPM results saw a pass rate of 91.14 per cent, an increase from last year’s 89.2 per cent,” he posted on X today.

“In fact, 3,552 PTRS participants achieved outstanding results with Grade A in all subjects, marking an improvement compared to the previous year.

“This programme has proven to be successful, which is why it will continue this year with further improvements.”

Amirudin said this year, the programme will cover Form 4 students, with the addition of approximately 130,000 participants.

He added that PTRS is aimed at assisting students who struggle in subjects such as Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Science, History, Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Islamic and Moral Education.

Lunch was included in the programme from 2023 to ensure students’ comfort and well-being while they study, he noted.

“This year, the state government has allocated RM10 million for PTRS. God willing, we will do our best to ensure that the education of our children remains a top priority.

In June last year, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) said the improved 2023 SPM results in the state were partially attributable to the PTRS.

It noted that Selangor recorded a 4.67 average grade (GPN) in SPM that year, compared with 4.8 the preceding year. A smaller GPN value indicates better achievement.

The number of Selangor candidates qualified to receive SPM certificates also increased to 58,082 (91.14 per cent) from 56,402 (89.25 per cent) in 2022.
