State welcomes federal initiative for Gaza reconstruction

SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — The Selangor government has praised the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) for establishing a Special Inter-Agency Coordination Committee to support the reconstruction of Gaza.

State executive councillor for Islam Dr Fahmi Ngah said the initiative aligns with Selangor’s ongoing efforts to help the people of Palestine, including the launch of the Selangor-Gaza Ehsan Development Fund last year.

“This is a commendable effort. The state government also has the Selangor-Gaza Ehsan Development Fund, which will finance several infrastructure projects in Palestine.

“With the ceasefire process now underway, we hope these projects can commence soon,” he told Media Selangor.

Last April, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj launched the Selangor-Gaza Ehsan Development Fund to support three projects on waqf land in Gaza, which requires a RM8.7 million fund.

They are the constructions of the Darul Ehsan Apartment (RM3 million), Darul Ehsan Mosque (RM4 million), and Darul Ehsan Water Tower (RM1.7 million).

The fund, initiated by the Selangor government in collaboration with the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organizations (Mapim), is managed under the Tabung Infak Jariah Umat Islam Selangor (Tijari) through Maybank Islamic Bhd.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar announced that the Special Inter-Agency Coordination Committee will be overseen by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (JAKIM) and Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia.

According to him, the committee will collaborate with state Islamic authorities and strategic partners to enhance collective efforts in Gaza’s reconstruction.
