KUCHING, Jan 29 — Rescuers have recovered two bodies after a landslide at Kampung Lereng Bukit in Miri buried six people at 2.58am today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre said it found the body of a 17-year-old boy at 6.17am, while the second body was found at 8.55am.
A backhoe was deployed at 8.30am to assist excavation efforts to locate four remaining victims — two women aged 71 and 41 and two girls aged eight and 12.
Seven other occupants of the two houses managed to escape to safety, while one man was rescued unharmed.
The landslide affected two houses in the village, located on the slopes of Bukit Kanada in Miri.
The rescue operation involves 15 personnel and four vehicles from the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station.
