PETALING JAYA, Jan 25 — The 2025 PKNS Selangor Masters has made significant strides in providing a platform to showcase young talents and promote the growth of golf in the country.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari emphasised the need for more tournaments to offer young players the opportunity to showcase their skills.

“We can see many young players being highlighted, including amateur players who can compete at a high level.

“For instance, I noticed earlier that an amateur was named Malaysia’s Best Amateur Player. This marks a significant opportunity for the development of golf in Malaysia,” he said, referring to Muhammad Hariz Muhammad Hezri, who was also Malaysia’s best finisher at the tournament, finishing 11th.

“Certainly, we need more junior players in the junior category,” he added at the closing ceremony here today.

Amirudin also expressed hope that the quality of golf courses used for tournaments could be further improved to maximise player performance.

“We need to assess some of our golf courses. There are areas that may not be in ideal condition, and I hope the club management can address this.

“In terms of aesthetics, much can be improved too, including enhancements to the greens, fairways, and overall landscaping, to elevate the experience.

“Additionally, creating a more welcoming environment for players and their families throughout the tournament would be beneficial.”

The 12th edition of the tournament featured 144 professional golfers from both local and international fields, with a total prize of US$200,000.
