Death toll rises to 19 following flash floods, landslides in Indonesia's Central Java

JAKARTA, Jan 22 — The death toll from flash floods and landslides in Pekalongan, Central Java, has risen to 19, with two more bodies found on Wednesday morning, said Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

Seven people remain missing, and the search and rescue team is continuing efforts to locate them after the tragedy struck Kasimpar village in Petungkriyono on Monday (January 20).

“The material losses included two severely damaged houses, two bridges, three vehicles, one café, and three roads blocked by landslide debris,” BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari said in a statement.

Rescuers are struggling with blocked routes due to landslides and must detour via Kali Bening in Banjarnegara, as the bridge in Pekalongan is destroyed.

The Pekalongan Disaster Management Agency is assessing the damage and victims while rescuers remain on high alert for further landslides amid unpredictable weather.
