Flood situation stabilises in Pahang, Johor sees significant improvement

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — The flood situation in Pahang has fully stabilised, while Johor has shown significant improvement, with a marked reduction in the number of evacuees seeking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS) this afternoon.

In Pahang, the final remaining PPS at Balai Raya Kampung Jawa in Rompin, which had been accommodating 186 victims from 43 families, was officially closed at 12pm today.

The Rompin District Disaster Management Committee confirmed that residents from Kampung Pantai 3 and 4, as well as Kampung Jawa, who had previously been affected by the floods, have been cleared to return to their homes.

In Johor, the number of evacuees has dropped significantly, with only 230 individuals remaining at PPS as of 4pm today, a sharp decrease from 1,097 earlier in the morning.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Azmi Rohani said three PPS remain operational: SK Melayu Raya in Pontian, Dewan Serbaguna Kahang, and SJK(C) Kahang in Kluang.

In Perak, the number of evacuees has remained steady at 31 individuals from nine families, who are residents of Kampung Padang Serai, Kampung Kasi, and Kampung Pengkalan Damar in Manjung. These individuals continue to seek shelter at SAR Padang Serai, which remains operational as of 4pm today.

In Sarawak, the flood situation remains stable, with 20 victims from 13 families sheltering at the Kanowit Sports Complex Hall.
