SHAH ALAM, Jan 11 — The upgrade project for the retention pond at the Berkeley roundabout in Bandar Baru Klang is nearing completion, and is expected to be operational soon.
Bandar Baru Klang state assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei said the retention pond will help mitigate flash flood issues in the surrounding areas.
“There are two retention ponds: one at Jalan Sumazau, Bukit Raja, and the other at the Berkeley roundabout.
"The Jalan Sumazau pond, equipped with one static water pump and two mobile pumps, is already operational, while the Berkeley roundabout pond is undergoing a cleaning processes.
“In addition, other initiatives to address flash floods include raising the height of drainage structures and enhancing cleaning efforts,” he said after officiating the "Hiss of Fortune" Year of the Snake celebration for the Chinese New Year at Central i-City today.
Dr Quah added that discussions have also been held with Meru state assemblyman Mariam Abdul Rashid to tackle flooding issues in Klang.
“Flooding in Klang is caused by water overflow from two locations, Aman Perdana and Sementa… discussions are underway to find solutions for the public,” he said.
In November last year, five areas in Klang, including Bandar Bukit Raja, experienced flooding following continuous heavy rain.
