SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — Selangor aims to take a leading role in positioning Malaysia as a strong competitor on the global stage as the country assumes the Asean chairmanship this year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this will be done via the various initiatives rolled out by the state government, including the Speed Selangor Policy, which aims to facilitate investor entry, and a focus on advanced industries.
“Selangor, as the backbone of the nation’s economy, continues to play a strategic role in the development of the semiconductor and technology industries.
“With initiatives such as the Speed Selangor Policy and the integrated circuit (IC) design park, Selangor is poised to become a key hub, ensuring Malaysia remains competitive on the international stage,” he said in a post on X.
Amirudin said this after attending the Malaysia Economic Forum 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday.
The forum themed ‘Seizing Malaysia’s Moment was organised by the Economy Ministry and officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“This forum provides a crucial platform for shaping Malaysia’s economic future in line with its 2025 Asean chairmanship,” Amirudin said.
The Speed Selangor Policy was first announced by Amirudin during the tabling of the 2025 Selangor Budget on November 15, aimed at attracting more investors into the state.
The policy will, among others, see the reduction of the approval period for planning permits for industrial areas from the current three-and-a-half months to 14 days. It is expected to be launched in April.
Selangor also launched the country’s first IC Design Park in Puchong in August last year, aimed at creating high-impact jobs in line with the national strategy of shifting its focus from back-end processes like packaging and testing to upstream processes, which involve IC design and innovation.
The state is expected to launch its second IC Design Park in Cyberjaya soon.
