SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — A total of 38 individuals with physical disabilities, categorised as cerebral palsy, received assistance, including equipment loans, between July and December last year.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the assistance was channelled through the Cerebral Palsy Care Unit (CPCU) initiative, involving nearly RM10,000 in funds, aimed at alleviating the burden on families.

"The scheme's implementation is divided into three phases: empowerment training for the care of children with cerebral palsy, equipment loan services, and treatment services.

"Selangor is the first state in Malaysia to introduce a special care economy policy and this unique project," she said in her portfolio’s annual report on Facebook today.

In July last year, Anfaal launched the CPCU via the Selangor Special Needs Children’s Department (AnIS) and the Selangor Children’s Heritage Foundation (Yawas).

She said the programme was initiated after observing the struggles of parents in caring for and raising special needs children without specific assistance from any party.
