After plane crash in S. Korea, aircraft slips on runway in Canada

SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — Several hours after a passenger plane crashed into a wall at a South Korean airport, an Air Canada plane reportedly slipped on the runway during an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Nova Scotia, Canada, yesterday.

The De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 en route from St John to Halifax slipped, causing a spark of fire on its wing from dragging along the runway at 9.30pm yesterday, reported Malaysia Gazette.

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick was quoted as saying the airliner was suspected to have faced an issue with its landing mechanism, and that its 73 passengers and crew were evacuated to a bus.

Fitzpatrick said no injuries were reported, but a Royal Canadian Mounted Police said there were light injuries.

In the South Korean incident, a Jeju Air plane carrying 181 passengers and crew experienced technical issues during landing and collided with a wall, killing most of the passengers.

In the 9.07am incident, an officer said the plane had tried to land at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla, about 288km from Seoul.
