MPM president reports alleged corruption ahead of AGM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Paralympic Council of Malaysia (MPM) president Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) alleging corruption in the election process of the council's committee members ahead of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) tomorrow.

He said the report was filed to enable the MACC to investigate two individuals influential in the national sports scene, whom he claimed had engaged in unethical practices and violated the code of conduct during the committee election process.

"I have lodged this complaint with the MACC to initiate an investigation into these two individuals to safeguard the integrity, sovereignty, and sanctity of MPM from corruption and unhealthy practices that could jeopardise the council’s credibility.

"This effort also aims to ensure that affiliate members remain uninvolved and untainted by corruption, as every national sports association is a public entity," Megat said in a statement tonight.

He also expressed hope that the MACC would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, one of the individuals implicated in the allegations denied any involvement in corruption, as claimed by Megat D Shahriman, and expressed willingness to cooperate with the MACC investigation.

"I am open to MACC opening an investigation, but if their findings do not implicate me, I will take similar legal action against him for tarnishing my reputation publicly.

"I am confident that the MACC is well-equipped to handle such allegations," said the individual, who previously held a senior position in the National Sports Council.
