KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Dec — In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad (CGC) planted 200 mangrove trees at Taman Alam, Kuala Selangor on Sunday (December 8), as part of the company's Tree Planting Programme 2024.

Its president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zamree Mohd Ishak said the initiative reflects the corporation's unwavering commitment to sustainability, both in its operations and in empowering stakeholders to contribute to Malaysia’s environmental goals.

"At CGC, we recognise the exceptional carbon sequestration capacity of mangrove trees, and their crucial role in combating climate change. Each mature mangrove tree absorbs around 0.04 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, making the CGC Tree Planting Programme 2024 a significant step in reducing our carbon footprint,” he said in a statement today.

The initiative aligns with Malaysia's 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign, under the Malaysia Greening Programme, supporting CGC's effort to offset operational emissions. It highlights the role of tree planting for carbon sequestration, and emphasises the importance of biodiversity conservation in Malaysia's ecosystem.

CGC remains committed to supporting Malaysia’s transition to a low-carbon economy, through practical and sustainable actions.

“By focusing on measurable environmental impact, the corporation will continue to encourage its workforce, and micro, small, and medium enterprises customers, to adopt more sustainable practices.

"These efforts contribute to Malaysia’s broader sustainability goals, supporting a cleaner and more sustainable future for all,” Zamree said.
