PUTRAJAYA, Dec 2 — Timor-Leste has expressed its heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the people of Malaysia who have been affected by the recent devastating floods.

Its Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, who is on a three-day official visit to Malaysia until tomorrow, said they are ready to offer support in addressing this natural disaster.

“On behalf of the government and people of Timor-Leste, we extend our deepest condolences to the families who have suffered losses, and offer our support to the Malaysian government in its effort to address this natural disaster and assist those in need,” he said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after a bilateral meeting today.

As of 8am today, the number of flood victims nationwide was recorded at 138,052 people.

Gusmão arrived in Malaysia yesterday to begin his three-day official visit, his first to the country after assuming office on July 1 last year.
