SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — Two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened to accommodate 159 flood victims from 39 families in Klang.
According to the Smart Selangor Operation Centre (SSOC), 21 victims are housed at the Balai MPKK Bukit Kapar PPS, while 138 people are sheltering at the SK Sungai Binjai PPS in Meru.
The SSOC in a statement said it would monitor and follow up on flood-related developments, and provide current updates.
Meanwhile, state executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said heavy rain since yesterday evening flooded low-lying areas in Klang.
“The intense downpour over a short period in the upstream hilly areas overwhelmed the drainage system, which could not handle the high runoff.
“The drainage system in Jalan Kempas was also unable to accommodate the runoff from higher areas in Bukit Cerakah and Bukit Kapar,” he said.
Meru assemblyman Mariam Abdul Rashid announced via Facebook that a disaster operations room has been activated, contactable at 019-491 9101.
