SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The state government has allocated RM94 million in financial grants to support various institutions and programmes, including state-run educational institutions.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this includes Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), to address their operational and developmental needs.

Speaking during the state Supplementary Supply Bill 2025 debate, he said Unisel requires an additional RM3 million in 2025 to support its transition into a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)-based university.
“Unisel is in the process of transitioning to become a TVET-based university, which requires further investment to strengthen its initiatives, especially following the success of its pilot TVET projects,” he told the State Legislative Assembly session yesterday.
As for UIS, which received full university status in 2023, an additional RM8 million has been allocated to sustain its operations and meet its growing needs.
“Both institutions face unique challenges, and their financial needs typically become more apparent by mid-year or the third quarter of the financial cycle,” Amirudin added.
The Menteri Besar was addressing questions from state Opposition leader cum Hulu Kelang state assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who questioned why the institutions purportedly failed to implement proper financial planning, resulting in the need for additional funds through a supplementary bill.
