SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 – The Selangor government has revised the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) initiative, reducing its scope from 13 originally planned projects to nine, citing a lack of progress by private companies on four of the proposed projects.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the remaining nine projects under Idriss would focus on delivering significant economic benefits to the state.
Previously, the state administration approved 13 projects with an estimated development area of 17,398.56 acres under Idriss.
The proposed development projects under Idriss, which is part of economic development in the Sepang and Kuala Langat districts within the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), include the industrial, logistics services, warehousing, ports, business, housing, tourism, and education sectors.
“We have dropped the other four projects because there was no planning progress made by the private developers,” he told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here today, adding that the projects in Idriss are all privately driven.
Ng was answering an additional question in the state assembly sitting posed by Sinjangkan state assemblymen Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi on why the number of proposed projects for Idriss has been reduced from 13 to only nine.
He then explained that to attract investment into Idriss, the state government is offering various incentives designed to ease business operations and encourage development within the region.
The incentives include a special premium scheme, interest-free installment payments for development charges, a 50 per cent discount on land and building taxes for vacant properties for three years, and exemption from business licence fees for a period of five years.
To further attract investment into the Idriss, Ng said the state also conducts promotions on international platforms, including the Selangor Investment and Industrial Park Expo, or SPARK, under the auspices of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).
