SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — The Selangor State Assembly has received feedback from the police regarding the acid attack on Selangor FC player Faisal Halim.
Deputy Speaker Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin said that Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has informed that the case has been taken over by the Bukit Aman’s Elite Crime Investigation Unit.
“The police are taking this case seriously. The team handling the investigation has greater expertise and advanced tools to identify and apprehend the suspects involved,” he said during the state assembly sitting, here today.
Last week, state executive councillor for sports Najwan Halimi said that the police had yet to respond to the incident, despite Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San sending an official letter to the authorities.
In July, the state assembly passed an emergency motion condemning the act of extremism and violence against the athlete. The motion, agreed by both government and opposition representatives, was debated by five state assemblymen.
On May 5, Faisal, also known as “Mickey,” suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after an unknown individual splashed him with acid at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara. He underwent treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for about 10 days.
Following the attack, the winger sustained severe injuries but has since been recovering well and has returned to action, contributing to Red Giants’ matches.
