KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — The newly-introduced Zero Discharge Policy (ZDP) and Polluters Pay Principle (PPP) are anticipated to significantly contribute to Selangor’s revenue next year.
According to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, these policies are projected to generate an estimated income of between RM70 million to RM80 million for the state in 2025.
“Land remains our main revenue contributor. But we have developed a new plan through ZDP and PPP,” he told reporters after attending the Selangor International Business Summit 2024 appreciation dinner at The Majestic Hotel, here, last night.
Selangor recently implemented the ZDP following approval by the State Economic Action Council in May.
The policy is part of a broader strategy to enhance water quality management and protect the state's rivers, which are crucial for supplying raw water to residents.
Alongside the ZDP, the PPP will also be enforced, requiring industries to pay fees based on effluent discharges exceeding regulated limits.
Yesterday, during a press conference after the tabling of the 2025 Selangor Budget, Amirudin had said that the state government is aiming for a revenue collection of RM2.35 billion next year.
He said the target is based on the current revenue collection of RM2.4 billion so far this year, which has exceeded its initial RM2.2 billion target.
When asked about the inclusion of Negeri Sembilan in the proposed Selangor Rail Line, as announced in the state budget, Amirudin said this is based on preliminary findings and initial feasibility study presentations.
These studies were presented to the Selangor Industry Rail Council and later brought to the state’s executive council.
The project, which envisions a route extending beyond state borders and stretching from Sabak Bernam to Negeri Sembilan, will be implemented in phases.
It will also include strategic spur lines connecting to major economic hubs, including Westport, Klang, Putra Heights and Unisel Bestari Jaya.
“However, the full details of the feasibility studies are still being finalised by the consultant appointed by the state government,” he said.
