SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 – Selangor will bring more than 12,200 premises under its Zero Discharge Policy (ZDP) in 2025, a move expected to generate RM35.41 million in licensing revenue while strengthening environmental protection measures, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced today.
When tabling the 2025 Selangor State Budget today, Amirudin said the licensing programme will encompass various sectors across the state.
“The initiative will cover 9,000 industrial premises, 1,000 earthworks development sites, 1,050 livestock facilities, and additional premises involved in other activities,” he told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
The policy aims to ensure all operators and industrial premises minimise wastewater discharge while adhering to stringent standards for water and effluent release into water sources and the environment.
Revenue generated from the licensing programme will be channelled back into water resource conservation and preservation efforts, Amirudin said.
In a related development, he also announced a RM3 million allocation for 2025 to support the Selangor Water Management Authority’s River Monitoring Programme (RMP).
Launched in 2023, the RMP monitors water quality along main river reserves and high-risk tributaries across the state’s three principal river basins.
The programme will expand to cover approximately 60 tributaries and conservation sites.
“The RMP enables us to quickly identify water quality issues and implement necessary control measures and conservation efforts,” Amirudin said, underlining the state’s commitment to maintaining river water quality.
