SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — The state’s premiere trade show, the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), has been identified as one of the official events that will be held in conjunction with the Asean Summit 2025, which Malaysia will host.

This is according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who said the summit will also be reverted to a single event next year, unlike the two-series format this year.

“In conjunction with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship, SIBS 2025 will be organised with a proposed allocation of RM20 million.

“SIBS 2025 will be held in October and included as one of the official events for the Asean Summit 2025,” he said when tabling the 2025 Selangor Budget in the State Legislative Assembly today.

Amirudin said that SIBS has helped promote Selangor as a key investment destination in the Southeast Asian region while serving as a platform for local and foreign industry players to hold discussions and forge collaborations.

He noted that this year’s edition, held over two series for the first time, saw the participation of 22 countries, including those Southeast Asian countries.

“SIBS 2024 also recorded a potential transaction value of RM12.2 billion through the signing of 23 memoranda of understanding and appointment letters,” Amirudin said.

A total of RM3 billion is allocated for the 2025 Selangor Budget, an increase of RM470 million compared to this year’s budget.

Themed ‘A Dynamic Selangor: An Ideal Quest for a Civil Malaysia,’ the state budget has five main thrusts, namely Artificial Intelligence and Education as a Catalyst for State Economic Development, Uplifting an Aspiration of a Sustainable Environment and Quality Infrastructure, Promoting a Compassionate State, Championing an Efficient and Responsible System of Government, and Breathing New Life into the Creative Economy and Developing the Next Generation.
