CAIRO, Nov 6 — Selangor is intensifying efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals through initiatives and strategies across various sectors, including generating power through renewable energy.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this aligns with the state’s commitment to contribute between 1GW to 1.5GW of renewable energy in the future.

“We hope to initiate more collaborative efforts by exploring business opportunities and renewable energy development projects.

“This is intended to enhance the state’s energy security while supporting environmental sustainability,” he said at the Voluntary Sub-National Review and Voluntary Local Review opening ceremony at the 12th World Urban Forum, held at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre here yesterday.

Earlier this year, the state administration, through Worldwide Holdings Bhd, signed a memorandum of understanding with Tenaga Nasional Bhd to accelerate collaboration and implementation of renewable energy projects in Selangor.

These projects encompass large-scale solar energy, battery energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and energy efficiency measures, aimed at generating 3GW of renewable energy by 2040.

In his speech, Amirudin stressed that Selangor’s commitment to sustainable development is not new, as it has been in progress since the late 1990s.

“Starting with the Selangor Agenda 21 in 1998 and Local Agenda 21 in 2006, Selangor has continued to advance with various action plans focused on sustainable development.

“These frameworks include the Local Agenda 21, green development, and low-carbon urban development,” he added.
