KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — The National Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Programme will be implemented from 2025 to 2030 through grant funding, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the programme will involve two approaches, namely the replacement of critical pipes nationwide and a holistic NRW solution in six states: Pahang, Kelantan, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

He was replying to a question from Kuala Krai MP Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman.

Akmal added that a prorated rebate system would be introduced to encourage the participation of water operators in Selangor, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu, Perak, Penang, and Kedah.

The National NRW Programme will improve water management across the country, involving a cost of RM2.525 billion which was approved by the Cabinet on July 24.

According to data from the National Water Services Commission, the NRW percentage in 2023 by state includes Perlis at 64.5 per cent, Kelantan (54 per cent), Kedah (50.7 per cent), and Pahang (47.7 per cent).
