SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — The state government will not hesitate to terminate the contracts of and blacklist contractors who fail to complete flood mitigation projects in Selangor.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said this comes after his team identified nine delayed projects that need to be completed urgently ahead of the northeast monsoon next month.
"The state government has allocated RM482 million for 41 flood mitigation projects. However, nine of these have been identified as problematic and categorised as ‘sick projects’ because they have not been completed within the assigned time frame.

"The projects include the ones in Sungai Buloh, Ijok, Sungai Kayu Ara and its tributaries, Sijangkang, Sungai Kandis, Sungai Kembong, Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja, and Sungai Pinang," he said.
Izham was speaking during a recent press conference on flood management coordination at the State Administrative Building.
He added that the state administration has also approved RM5 million to maintain unmanned ditches and drains across Selangor to prevent flooding.
The drainage cleaning works covering over 300km will be conducted in two phases, with each phase receiving a RM2.5 million allocation.
Previously, the Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasted that the northeast monsoon would start from November 2024 to March 2025, with four to six episodes of continuous heavy rain expected during this period.
Selangor is also expected to experience the king tide phenomenon on Friday (October 18), with sea levels projected to reach 5.8 metres.
