SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — Residents in Selangor's coastal areas have been advised to remain alert due to the upcoming high-tide phenomenon, which is expected to occur from Thursday (October 17) to Sunday (October 20).

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the sea level is predicted to reach a height of 5.8 metres on Friday (October 18).

"On October 17, the sea level is expected to be 5.7 metres, while on October 19 and October 20, it will be 5.7 and 5.5 metres, respectively.

"These four days in October are quite serious. There will be another occurrence in November, and I will provide further information later," he said in a recent interview.

In response, the state government is taking temporary measures by providing sandbags in coastal areas where embankment construction is underway.

"This temporary measure was recommended by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage for the four days of the high-tide phenomenon.

"We will also look into other methods that can be implemented in the areas under construction," Izham said.
