SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — The state government is intensifying its monitoring of hotspot areas and implementing improvements to flood mitigation projects across Selangor.
State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said this decision was made during a recent State Executive Council meeting.
“In that meeting, we decided to monitor and enhance the flood mitigation and bund projects currently underway, particularly in anticipation of the high tide phenomenon scheduled for next week.
“Additionally, we will continue to monitor hotspot areas that frequently experience flash floods and are prepared to mobilise local authorities if a disaster occurs.
“Preparations for disaster management have begun early, including simulations with local authorities and district offices, prioritising the safety of residents,” he said during the launch of the state-level National Sports Day 2024 at Dataran Kemerdekaan here today.
Previously, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that the high tide phenomenon in Klang, expected to end on October 31, is projected to record sea level readings of up to 5.8m, the highest for this year.
The agency forecast sea water level to reach 5.4m at 4.53am on October 16, followed by 5.7m at 5.38am and 5.1m at 5.51pm on October 17.
On October 18, water level is expected to reach 5.8m at 6.17am — highest this year — and 5.2m at 6.36pm, followed by 5.7m at 6.54am and 5.2m at 7.15pm the following day.
