MyRentas app shortens wait time at Johor-Singapore crossing to 15 minutes

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 9 — Almost two million QR transactions were logged via the MyRentas app at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Johor-Singapore crossing from June 1.

App developer Jati Jana (M) Sdn Bhd’s chief operating officer Azril Rizal Abdullah said this has resulted in a reduction in waiting time from two hours to 15 minutes for bus users between Malaysia and Singapore during peak hours.

“MyRentas also succeeded in shortening the clearance time from 30 to 45 seconds to less than five seconds per user.

“Based on statistics obtained, the MyRentas average use is 1:29, which is the ratio of a single user using the app 29 times since the system was introduced,” he said in a statement today.

He said that for now, travellers are using the QR code system via the MyRentas app at the BSI and the MyTRIP app at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), Iskandar Puteri.

Azril Rizal, meanwhile, said the testing phase for the effectiveness of immigration checks using QR codes at BSI and KSAB will be extended until November.

He added that this was to enable the Home Ministry, especially the Immigration Department, to have a detailed look at the effectiveness of the system in expediting immigration clearance at Malaysia-Singapore crossings.

On June 1, the Immigration Department launched a three-month MyRentas trial to tackle congestion at the Malaysia-Singapore border, especially at BSI.

The system was then extended by three more months in September.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof previously announced the first phase of the QR code system would involve Malaysians travelling by bus and motorcycle at BSI and KSAB.
