NCDC expected to be fully completed by 2026 — Deputy minister

KUALA LUMPUR Oct 8 — The construction progress of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has now reached 45 per cent, and is expected to be fully completed by July 2026, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

Once completed, the centre, located in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan, will enhance Malaysia's preparedness for global health crises.

“Based on findings and analyses during the Covid-19 pandemic, this centre (NCDC) will serve as a Special Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory, strengthening the country’s ability to manage disease outbreaks.

“The construction of the NCDC also reinforces Malaysia’s position in producing its own vaccines, providing optimal facilities for local scientists to conduct in-depth studies on diseases,” he said after the 25th Silver Jubilee Celebration of the National Public Health Laboratory (MKAK) today.

Lukanisman said the NCDC, which began construction in October 2021 and covers 20 acres, will feature two main blocks, namely the Control Disease Centre and the Public Health Reference Laboratory.

MKAK's Silver Jubilee celebration commemorates the institution’s 25-year success in safeguarding public health, including the notable achievement of being the first laboratory in Malaysia to identify the Covid-19 virus using an electron microscope and the Monkeypox virus via the Real-Time PCR method.
