SHAH ALAM, Sept 25 — Updated routes for the Smart Selangor Bus and demand-responsive transit (DRT) services are expected to be finalised by next year, said state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
Ng said discussions are ongoing with local authorities, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd to ensure both services do not overlap.
“There is currently not much difference in the routes because Smart Selangor Bus routes do not overlap with Prasarana’s.
“The state government needs to harmonise these routes to ensure a seamless public transport system for the benefit of the people of Selangor,” he said.
In January, the state government ordered local authorities to review Smart Selangor Bus routes to improve services and align them with DRT routes.
Over 60 million passengers have used the Smart Selangor buses between 2015 and June 2023, with 166 buses covering 50 routes, supported by an annual allocation of RM45 million.
The DRT service, which was introduced in November 2023, logged nearly 54,000 users by June.
It mainly caters to narrow routes and densely populated areas, with a particular focus on locations near major public transport hubs, complementing first-mile and last-mile connectivity.
