SUBANG JAYA, Sept 20 — Selangor is expanding its grain corn cultivation to reduce reliance on imported livestock feed and stabilise market prices.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said to date, the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has harvested over 1.2 tonnes of grain corn from 120 acres of land.

The state agency now plans to expand cultivation to 500 acres in the future.

According to Amirudin, PKPS is also currently developing a grain corn collection centre in Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat.

"PKPS has implemented a grain corn project aimed at reducing the burden of animal feed costs.

"Grain corn is a product of our team's innovative research, but to further develop it, we need to identify suitable crops," he said when met at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro Tourism Exhibition (Maha) 2024 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps), yesterday.

Last week, it was reported that PKPS is developing a 300-acre grain corn collection centre in Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat, equipped with drying and decomposing machines.

The centre, which is currently 30 per cent complete, will include a storage facility with a capacity of approximately 200 tonnes.
