SUBANG JAYA, Sept 12 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is aiming to reduce carbon emissions by as much as 40 per cent by 2035, said Deputy Mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali.

To this end, various initiatives have been undertaken, including tree planting, promoting the use of public transport, recycling, and awareness programmes in schools to achieve this target.

"When discussing low carbon, one of the main aspects is the community’s use of green technology, which includes reducing motor vehicle usage and systematic waste management.

"To achieve this, MBSJ is implementing various efforts to educate the public, and we are targeting a 40 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2035," he said.

Zulkurnain was speaking during the 2024 Smart Generation Low Carbon Schools programme at the USJ 7 Multipurpose Hall yesterday.

He added that the programme’s organisation aligns with the main strategies of the Subang Jaya Local Plan 2035, which are green growth and low carbon.

"Aside from raising awareness about low carbon, this is part of the efforts to foster awareness of the importance of environmental care and proper waste management.

"We want to instil this awareness from an early stage, namely among children and teenagers, so they can practise it at home and in school," he said.

The programme, in collaboration with the State Education Department and the Selangor Town and Country Planning Department, among others, was attended by 150 students and teachers from 35 primary and secondary schools.
