KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) have been told to inspect the sewage pipe near another sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India.
Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that as a safety measure, the sinkhole had been cordoned off using safety tape and a water barrier.
“We will continue working closely with IWK and other agencies to ensure continuous and comprehensive follow-up actions to prevent similar incidents.
“The safety and well-being of city dwellers are our priority. DBKL will continue to monitor this situation and take appropriate measures to ensure public safety,” she said in a statement.
Earlier, Bernama reported another sinkhole was spotted on Jalan Masjid India here, about 50m from where the ground opened under a pedestrian on Friday.
The latest incident is said to have occurred at around 2.30am today, believed to be due to heavy rain last night.
On Friday morning, a tourist, Vijayaletchumy, 48, from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India, fell into an 8m-deep hole and disappeared.
The search and rescue operation is ongoing.
Dang Wangi police chief Suliezmy Affendy Sulaiman reportedly said talks are underway to extend the road closure.
