Three foreigners nabbed for using fake ID cards to work

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — The National Registration Department (JPN) has detained three men, believed to be from the Philippines, who are suspected of using fake identification cards to work as security guards.

JPN's Enforcement Division said the men, aged between 20 and 39, were arrested in Petaling Jaya during an Op Kutip operation yesterday.

"They are believed to have obtained the fake identification cards for between RM200 and RM250 from agents and acquaintances. The cards have been used for one or two years to secure jobs," it said in a statement today.

Initial investigations revealed that only one of the men possessed a valid passport.

The trio are liable to be charged under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison or a maximum fine of RM20,000 if found guilty.
