SHAH ALAM, Aug 6 — Selangor FC star winger Faisal Halim is set to make a special appearance at the August 17 The Sultan of Selangor Cup (TSSC) match against Singapore at Merdeka Stadium.
The announcement was made by TSSC chairman and manager Tan Sri Abd Karim Munisar during a meet-and-greet with the Selangor selection for fans at SACC Mall yesterday.
“I have met Faisal along with other Selangor players... he is ready to play in the August 17 match.
“This is a new beginning in Faisal’s career, so let’s come together to show our support,” he said, adding that various activities will be held in conjunction with TSSC, such as a parachute show, fireworks, and a performance by local artist Datuk Jamal Abdillah.
“The most important thing in the excitement of support is the manifestation of sportsmanship. Indeed, we aim to win, but football is also an important platform for unity,” he said.
Karim said spectators will also have the opportunity to win lucky draw prizes worth RM130,000 during the match day.
The grand prize is a Honda City, with other prizes including two four-day, three-night stays at Marriott Hotel in Kota Kinabalu and The Noble in Melaka.
He confirmed all 20,000 tickets for the match have been sold out, including 1,500 tickets allocated for Singaporean spectators.
The stadium has been refurbished ahead of the match, with full training scheduled for August 15.
Previously, TSSC held a tour to promote the Selangor-Singapore match at five local authorities. It kicked off at the Shah Alam City Council on June 24 and ended at the Selayang Municipal Council on July 22.
The iconic Merdeka Stadium, which began construction in 1956 and completed within a year, was once considered a marvel of national engineering and was the historic site of the country’s declaration of independence.
It was closed for conservation and improvement, carried out by Permodalan Nasional Bhd, in 2016, with the TSSC the first event held there after its reopening.
