KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — More than 667 Net Energy Metering (NEM) Rakyat consumers have installed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and received Solar For Rakyat Incentive Scheme (Solaris) rebates since the scheme kicked off on April 1.
The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry said the majority received RM4,000 each via the Solaris rebate offering.
Under Solaris, Malaysians receive rebates from RM1,000 per kW (alternating current) up to a maximum of RM4,000.
The ministry said the Solaris implementation, in concept, would be able to reduce the cost of solar PV system installation for domestic consumers by creating economies of scale that enable lower installation costs for the people.
“This move will also boost demand for solar installation among domestic consumers and indirectly contribute to the increase in the renewable energy capacity in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap,” it said in a written reply in the Dewan Negara today.
It was answering a query from Mohd Hasbie Muda, who wanted to know about the latest development regarding the Solaris programme and whether it can assist the government in achieving the renewable energy generation target.
The ministry said NEM Rakyat bids have risen from about 100 applications a day to 150 applications daily after the launch of Solaris.
